Many Bostomatic machine tools are still in production, some 30 years old, the machines are as accurate today as they were when they were originally built, testament to the original design and build, however the electronics and control system have become dated and in some cases spare parts are no longer available. Many of the machines still offer features not readily available in machines currently in production, or the cost of new equipment is so high that upgrading is not viable.

In order to maintain the existing machines we have developed a European version of the popular G&W services OpenCNC control.

The control is designed as a stand alone unit, this means we can build and test the control in house enabling us to pre load the operating software thus saving time on site.

The control communicates with an expandable remote PLC via an Ethernet link, all inputs and outputs are converted to 24VDC, much of the existing circuitry and old contactors are removed, thus reducing heat and improving reliability.

Original servo and spindle drives can be reused to save costs regardless of the style of drive. We have systems running in both velocity and torque mode with 5 axis look ahead.

Complete electrics retrofits are also available, in these cases we completely redesign the system replacing the servo and spindle drives, adding new AC servo motors to the machine, the electrics cabinet in these cases could be mounted on the back of the column thus reducing floor space.
